Historic Area of Willemstad, Inner City, and Harbour Curaçao
Curaçao has a historic city center called the Historic Area of Willemstad, Inner City, and Harbour. It features 17th-century Dutch architecture. As well as a pontoon bridge that opens and closes to let ships pass through. In 1997, UNESCO designated this area of the country a cultural World Heritage site.
Antigua Naval Dockyard
Other UNESCO sites include the Antigua Naval Dockyard, which was once a British naval yard. Lush green hills surround the dockyard and offer breathtaking views. Antigua’s Nelson’s Dockyard is more than just a historical site. Today, this area still serves as Antigua’s main tourist attraction. It is popular for sailing events, hikes, and evening entertainment.
Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison
Barbados is a popular tourist destination for many people. It has some of the most beautiful beaches and a cultural UNESCO site. While in Barbados, you may also want to visit the site of the largest British colonial garrison in the 1800s. That is Bridgetown. This site is one of the best examples of British colonial settlements in the Caribbean.
Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park
Saint Kitts & Nevis is home to Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a striking example of 1800s military architecture. Enslaved Africans built the fortress that now bears witness to British colonial expansion.
The perimeter of the property includes all parts of the fortress up the hill. Most noteworthy structures are still standing, while some are ruins and some are stabilized.
Old Havana, Cuba
Cuba has some spectacular sights to offer. From the lush mountains to the historic town of Old Havana, the island is a beautiful destination.
